Comparisons

Don't compare me to the beauties!
I'm not that type of girl.
I am smart, kind and gentle,
but don't live my life in curls.

Your reaction to the lovelies,
that parade for you to see,
lets me know that you're not watching
because of love you feel for me.

And rarely does great beauty and
virtue goes together.!
Male heads will turn as on axis.
It is just too much to weather!

It's a hardship to be lovely,
keeping up with what's expected,
when all they hear is "Oh how pretty."
And it's rare that they're rejected!

But beauty fades and grows familiar
to that ever watchful eye.
That's why I'm telling you I'm simple,
and you'll know this by and by.

When the splendor has all vanished
With bulky waist and double chins..
It will be clear, then, to others
that true beauty grows from deep
within.
