God chose animals
to share their stall
with the newborn babe
so gentle and small;
for He knew their hearts
were as pure as gold
and worthy of the
birth to behold.
And indeed they
offered home and hay
to the tiny newborn
King where He lay.
They watched in awe
as He was cradled to sleep,
these simple cattle
and simple sheep.
For in His warm heart
they too belong,
and God hoped mankind
would remember long
that animals are
a gift from above,
deserving of
our care and love.
