Warmth Left Me...

I've feared our parting,
but it's easier now.
You've hurt me so many times
that my soul is black and blue.
Even my flesh has weathered from
the winds of broken dreams.
I held our star
until it faded
and could no longer be seen,
while you focused your direction
on other horizons.
You forgot that the voice
on the wind is mine.
You put me at
the bottom of your mountain
and buried me in snow
until the warmth left me.

"Warmth Left Me," written and designed by Bobette Bryan, 2002
